Jointly organized by Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology ( DBT Star Departments)
A program was designed to train the III BSc. Microbiology and
Biotechnology students of DrNGPASC under DBT-STAR Scheme to develop the basic
skills in First aid and CPR if accident happens. There are about 150 students and
lab attainders of various bioscience departments were benefitted through this
program. Mr. R. Karthikeyan, District co coordinator, Ekam foundation, Mr. Vanamayilan,
State Trainer, Ekam foundation along with 108 ambulance Team members were
demonstrated the procedures to be followed during the emergency situation.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training are lifesaving
technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near
drowning, in which someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. CPR may not save the victim even when performed properly, but if
started within 4 minutes of cardiac arrest and defibrillation is provided
within 10 minutes, a person has a 40% chance of survival. It provides a trickle
of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart and keeps these organs alive. First
Aid training are necessary during the Cuts and scrapes happened, for example,
should be rinsed with cool water. To stop bleeding, apply firm but gentle
pressure, using gauze. If blood soaks through, add more gauze, keeping the
first layer in place and. Continue to apply pressure. It is important to have been
known such first aid procedure. To learn how to do the first aid make you ready
in case an emergency happens. It was successfully demonstrated by the team
members of Ekam foundation along with the 108 ambulance members of Coimbatore.
Ultimately it creates awareness about CPR and First Aid among the students and
they gave a positive feedback about this program.
