a) Brief report about the activity (10 lines)
The department of Microbiology organized one day Industrial Visit for II B.Sc. Microbiology Students to UPASI TRF, Coonoor on 08.03.2024 under DBT Star College Scheme. Totally 55 students and 2 staff members were got benefitted out of this industrial Visit. Out of this IV students were gained knowledge on how the microorganisms used as biofertilizer to enhance the growth of tea plant and how the microorganisms used as bio pesticide and insecticide. Although they were sensitized what are the fungal infections affected the tea plant and how to protect the tea plant and enhance the quality of the tea.

Brief
report about the activity (10 lines)
The
department of Microbiology along with the department of Biotechnology and Food
Science and Nutrition organized one day extension activity on “Food Choices and Hygienic Practices”
to the school students and general public of Velliyangadu village in
association with DBT Star College
Scheme. Our students were exhibited awareness to the school students and to
general community people through chart illustration, story and pamphlet
distribution. The main motto of this extension activity to educate and empower
the students to build a strong future generation. The programme was inaugurated
by Head Master of Velliyangadu Primary School and President of Velliyangadu
Village along with the Professors and Students of Dr. N.G.P. Arts and Science
College. Out of this programme 25 School students and 20 general pubic got
benefitted.

the activity
The department of
Microbiology organized one day in house guest lecture on the topic “Sickle
Cell anemia and its impact” in the intention of create awareness about
Sickle cell disease to the students of Microbiology department under DBT STAR
College Scheme on 19.06.2023. The lecture was delivered by Dr. N. Vidhya,
Professor, Department of Microbiology, Dr. N. G. P. Arts and Science
College she was highlighted about the disease, reason the disease and how to
identify as well as how to control the disease to the students. Out of this
lecture students were gained robust knowledge about sickle cell anemia and its
impact. Totally 100 students were benefited out this programme.

The department of
Microbiology (with DBT Star Status) students were (40 Students) organized one
day Awareness programme on “Vector Borne Disease” on observation of
World Mosquito Day 2023 under DBT Star College Scheme to the Dr. N.G.P. Arts
and Science College students. The aim of the awareness programme to create
awareness to the students about microbial disease which spread through the bite
of mosquito and educated to how to prevent the mosquito bite. Totally 600
students from various departments were benefitted through this awareness
programme.

competition on the topic “Explore Microbes-Invisible goodness” under DBT Star
College Scheme to the Microbiology department students. Totally 25 students
were participated and exhibited their innovation and their presentation skill,
this intradepartmental competition create awareness among the students about importance
of Microorganisms and how they are play a major role in all the life forms. Dr.
M.N. Kathiravan, Professor, Department of Biotechnology and Ms. M. Nivethitha,
Asst. Professor Department of Microbiology was evaluated the drawing the
winners honored with the shield.

Microbiology (with DBT Star Status) organized one day interdepartmental oral
and poster presentation competition on the topic “Hepatitis and its Prevention”
under DBT Star College Scheme to all the bioscience department UG students.
Totally 100 students from various bioscience departments were participated and
exhibited their innovation and their presentation skill, this interdepartmental
competition create awareness among the students about Hepatitis virus, how it
infect the liver and how to protect our liver from the viral infection.
Faculties from the department of Microbiology was evaluated the poster and oral
presentation and honored the students with prizes and certificates.
